    Description

This simulation is about Sludge flow Settling in a pipe via ANSYS Fluent software. We perform this CFD project and investigate it by CFD analysis.

In this project, the water enters the pipe with a velocity of 0.01 m/s with gravity considered -9.81 m/s2 on the y-axis. This water flow carries sludge particles.

The geometry of the present model is drawn by Design Modeler software. The geometry consists two-section, the lower section is resident water, and the upper section contains an outlet and inlet.

The model is then meshed by ANSYS Meshing software. The model mesh is unstructured, and 390742 cells have been created.

    Sludge Flow Method

Sludge Flow is considered a multiphase flow because the sludge particles float on the water flow. So there is a need to use a Multiphase model in this simulation.

VOF, mixture and Eulerian models can be used as multiphase models. For sludge flows, the Eulerian Model is usually used. This model is known as the most complex multiphase model.

    Sludge Flow Conclusion

After simulation, two-dimensional contours of velocity and volume fraction of sludge and water are obtained. Also, the animation is obtained for the volume fraction of water and sludge.

The results show that the two-phase flow enters the pipe in a mixed manner. Then, over time, the sludge flow begins to settle, while water flow continues to move due to its lightness. The U-shaped structure of the tube leads to sedimentation.
