What This Means for Your Simulations

16 Cores means this server can perform 16 calculations simultaneously.

Why this matters: CFD simulations divide your fluid domain into millions of cells. Each core can solve equations for different cells at the same time - more cores = dramatically faster solutions. A simulation that takes 24 hours on a 4-core laptop could finish in 3-4 hours with 16 cores.

Perfect for: Medium simulations (2-10 million cells), steady-state aerodynamics, heat transfer, and parametric studies with faster iteration times.

The 5.7 GHz clock speed determines how fast each core performs individual calculations - higher means faster processing for mesh generation, solving, and post-processing.

Memory (RAM)

128 GB
Type
ECC DDR5

What This Means

128 GB is your simulation's "working space" - it holds all active data: mesh geometry, fluid properties, boundary conditions, and results during solving.

ECC DDR5 provides high-bandwidth data access essential for CFD solvers that read and update millions of cell values thousands of times during iterations. This capacity handles professional CFD work like large steady-state analyses and turbulence modeling - much more than typical 16-32GB PC. More RAM means larger meshes and more complex physics without performance degradation.

About This Server

SC117 — 16-Core Flagship CFD HPC Node with 128 MB Cache and 128 GB Memory for ANSYS Fluent

The SC117 node doesn't ask you to trade cores for clock speed, or clock speed for cache. It runs a single AMD EPYC 4585PX — 16 cores and 32 threads, boosting up to 5.7 GHz, backed by 128 MB of 3D V-Cache stacked L3. That's more cores than our other single-socket nodes, the highest boost clock in the lineup, and by far the largest cache. Paired with 128 GB of RAM and 2 × 1.88 TB NVMe SSD, it's the tier to choose when you don't want to compromise on any one of those three.

Where our other high-clock nodes ask you to pick a lane — more cores or a faster clock, a bigger cache or more parallel capacity — SC117 leads on all of them at once.

The headline here is that nothing was sacrificed to get the others: double the cores of our 8-core tiers, a higher boost clock than any of them, and 128 MB of cache — a third more than our largest-cache 8-core node. More cores to spread a mesh across, each one running fast, each one backed by a cache large enough to keep working data close by.

What this node is built for

SC117 is the flagship tier: broad parallel capacity, top-of-lineup clock speed, and the largest cache available. It suits:

  • Cases that want to scale across more cores without giving up per-core speed — 16 cores at up to 5.7 GHz outruns a lower-clocked many-core node on cases that fit this range.

  • Large meshes with large per-core working sets — 128 MB of cache keeps more of each core's active data on-chip even as the mesh is split fewer ways across fewer, more capable cores.

  • Parameter sweeps and design studies where turnaround matters most — more cores running fast means more iterations completed per hour.

  • UDF-heavy and serial-bottlenecked solves — the highest per-core clock in the lineup handles the parts of a case that don't parallelize well.

  • Transient, LES, and DES runs writing heavy data — NVMe storage keeps large data files and frequent autosaves from slowing down the solve.

  • Anyone unsure which tier to pick — SC117 is the safe default when a case doesn't clearly favor one factor over another.

Cores, clock speed & cache: choosing SC117

SC117 sits above our other single-socket nodes on every axis rather than trading one for another. Choose it when:

  • Your case would benefit from more cores than our 8-core tiers offer, without dropping to the lower per-core clock of a larger many-core node, and

  • You want the largest cache available on top of that, for cases whose per-core working set benefits from staying on-chip.

If your case scales efficiently across 20 or more cores, a many-core node will still spread the work further and may solve faster despite its lower per-core clock. And if your case is small enough that 8 cores already saturate it, a smaller high-clock tier gets you similar performance at a lower cost. SC117 is the right call for cases in between — bigger than an 8-core case, not so large that raw core count outweighs everything else. As a rough guide, Fluent needs about 1 GB of RAM per million cells for a typical steady, single-phase case, so with 128 GB, SC117 comfortably covers meshes well beyond what a 32 GB node can hold.

Tell us your cell count, physics, and how your case scales with core count, and we'll point you to the right tier.

Fast NVMe storage

The two 1.88 TB NVMe SSDs give substantially higher read/write throughput than SATA SSDs, plus nearly 3.76 TB of combined capacity. That means faster loading of large case and data files, quicker autosaves, and room to keep multiple case variants or a full DOE sweep's output on disk without constantly clearing space.

How parallel solving works on this node

When you run Fluent in parallel, the solver partitions your mesh across the available cores (using algorithms such as METIS), each core solving its share of cells and exchanging boundary data each iteration via MPI. With 16 cores and 128 MB of shared L3 cache, each core carries a smaller, faster-moving slice of the mesh than it would on a many-core node, with more of that slice able to stay resident on-chip between iterations — the combination of core count, a 5.7 GHz boost clock, and a large cache all working in the same direction.

Move between tiers as each job demands

For engineers who want the strongest single-socket option available without picking between core count, clock speed, and cache, SC117 delivers all three — and you can still move to a many-core or high-memory node when a job calls for it.

How it works — you're in full control

SC117 is yours to drive directly. You connect to the node over a secure remote desktop connection and run everything yourself, exactly as you would on a local workstation:

  1. Connect via remote desktop — you get full remote access to the SC117 node.

  2. Set up your simulation — load your geometry and case, configure your solver settings, and run ANSYS Fluent with all 16 cores at your command.

  3. Run and monitor in real time — start, pause, adjust, and watch the solution as it progresses, with complete control throughout.

  4. Keep your results — post-process on the node or download your solution and data files whenever you're ready.

You have full authority over the node for the duration of your rental: we provide the hardware and the support, and you run the simulations your way.

Frequently asked questions

How does SC117 compare to our other single-socket nodes? It leads across the board — more cores than our 8- and 12-core tiers, a higher boost clock than any of them (5.7 GHz), and the largest cache (128 MB). Those other tiers exist for cases that don't need the extra headroom, or for budget and availability reasons — not because they beat SC117 on raw capability.

Do more cores, a faster clock, and a bigger cache actually combine, or are there diminishing returns? They address different bottlenecks — core count determines how thin a mesh can be split, clock speed determines how fast each slice executes, and cache determines how often a core stalls waiting on memory. A case can be limited by any one of the three, so having all three at their strongest removes more potential bottlenecks than improving just one.

How large a mesh can it handle? With 128 GB of RAM, plan for meshes well into the tens to low hundreds of millions of cells for simpler steady single-phase cases, fewer for transient or multiphase physics (about 1 GB of RAM per million cells is a good starting estimate). Send us your case for a precise answer.

What if I need even more cores or memory than this? We offer many-core and high-memory nodes for cases that scale past 16 cores or need more than 128 GB — we'll recommend the right tier, or a multi-node setup, for your specific case.

Is my data kept confidential? Yes.
