SC22 — 28-Core CFD HPC Node for Fast ANSYS Fluent Solves
The SC22 node brings the highest core count and newest architecture in our lineup to moderate CFD work. A pair of Broadwell-generation Xeons delivers 28 cores and 56 threads, paired with 32 GB of RAM — built to solve moderate meshes as fast as possible in ANSYS Fluent. When your case fits comfortably in 32 GB and you want maximum parallel throughput, SC22 is the quickest route to a converged solution.
It is the speed-first, new-generation tier: more cores, a newer CPU architecture, and more cache than the earlier nodes — all aimed at fast turnaround.

Two things set SC22 apart: 28 cores — more than any of the 16–20-core nodes — and a newer Broadwell architecture with a larger 35 MB cache per CPU, which improves per-core performance over the earlier Ivy Bridge generation. More cores plus stronger cores means faster solves on cases that fit in memory.

SC22's headline is cores, not capacity. In CFD, cores determine how fast a case solves, while memory sets the largest mesh you can run — roughly 1 GB of RAM per million cells for a typical steady, single-phase case. With 32 GB, SC22 is matched to moderate meshes solved at maximum speed.
Choose SC22 when your case fits in 32 GB and you want it solved as fast as possible, or when you are running many cases and want maximum throughput. If instead your bottleneck is memory — large meshes, heavy multiphase or combustion, transient cases with many transported scalars — then more cores will not help; you need more RAM, and our higher-memory nodes (up to 128 GB, or the 1 TB high-memory node) are the right tools.

Fast SSD storage
The two 500 GB SATA SSDs deliver responsive read/write for loading case files, writing data, and handling autosaves — keeping a fast solve from being held up by slow disk I/O, which matters all the more on a high-throughput node like this.
How parallel solving works on this node
When you run Fluent in parallel, the solver partitions your mesh across all 28 cores (using algorithms such as METIS), each core solving its share of cells and exchanging boundary data each iteration via MPI. On a single node, that communication runs through fast on-board channels rather than a network, keeping parallel overhead low. The more cores available — as long as each still has enough cells to stay busy — the faster the overall solve, which is exactly what SC22's 28 cores are for.

How it works — you're in full control
SC76 is yours to drive directly. You connect to the node over a secure remote desktop connection and run everything yourself, exactly as you would on a local workstation:

What makes SC22 faster than the other nodes? Two things: more cores (28 versus 16–20 on the earlier nodes) and a newer Broadwell architecture with more cache, which improves per-core performance. For moderate cases that fit in 32 GB, that combination delivers the fastest solves in the lineup.
Will more cores always make my run faster? Up to a point. Fluent scales well as long as each core has enough cells to stay busy relative to the data it exchanges with neighbors. For moderate meshes that fit in 32 GB, SC22's 28 cores deliver a strong speed-up. For very small cases, the benefit is smaller. We will help you size it right.
How large a mesh can it handle? With 32 GB of RAM, plan for moderate meshes — into the low-to-mid tens of millions of cells for simpler steady single-phase cases, fewer for transient or multiphase physics (about 1 GB of RAM per million cells is a good starting estimate).
