What This Means for Your Simulations

This server has 2 physical CPUs installed. Each CPU has 64 cores and 128 threads, giving you a total of 128 cores and 256 threads.

Why this matters: Think of cores as individual workers - with 128 cores, this server can perform 128 calculations at exactly the same time. CFD simulations divide your fluid domain into millions of cells, and each core can solve equations for different cells simultaneously, dramatically reducing solution time.

Perfect for: Large-scale industrial simulations with 10+ million cells, complex transient analyses (time-dependent flows), multi-phase simulations, turbulence modeling with fine meshes, and running multiple design iterations in parallel. This dual-CPU configuration delivers enterprise-grade computational power - a simulation that takes 48 hours on a typical workstation could finish in 4-6 hours here.

The 4.2 GHz clock speed determines how fast each core processes individual calculations. Higher clock speeds improve both single-threaded operations (mesh generation, post-processing) and the per-core efficiency during parallel solving.

Memory (RAM)

256 GB
Type
ECC DDR5

What This Means

256 GB is your simulation's "working space" - it holds all active data: mesh geometry, fluid properties, boundary conditions, and results during solving.

ECC DDR5 provides high-bandwidth data access essential for CFD solvers that read and update millions of cell values thousands of times during iterations. This capacity handles large transient simulations, multi-phase flows, and parametric studies - far exceeding typical 16-32GB workstations limited to 2-3 million cells. Insufficient RAM forces simulations to fail.

About This Server

SC93 — Dual-Socket 128-Core CFD HPC Node with 256 GB Memory and 22.5 TB NVMe Storage for ANSYS Fluent

The SC93 node is engineered to eliminate the compromise between storage capacity and peak I/O speed for high-compute simulations. Powered by two AMD EPYC 9555 processors, it delivers a formidable 128 physical cores and 256 threads with a 4.2 GHz boost clock. Memory is provisioned at 256 GB, but the defining feature is the storage array: six 3.75 TB NVMe SSDs, yielding roughly 22.5 TB of ultra-high-speed usable capacity.

Two sockets also provide dual memory controllers: 24 memory channels in total, roughly 1.2 TB/s of aggregate bandwidth, and 512 MB of L3 cache across the pair. By merging 128 high-speed cores with an enterprise-grade NVMe array, SC93 is heavily optimized for massive transient workflows, complex acoustics, and large-scale parametric sweeps that demand both deep compute and instantaneous data writing.

Compared to our SC92 node, which shares the same 128-core compute power and 256 GB memory pool, SC93 completely overhauls the storage architecture. Upgrading from SATA to a 6-drive NVMe array means that while you retain the massive 22.5 TB capacity to house months of simulation data, you gain the peak sequential write speeds necessary to dump gigabytes of transient autosaves without stalling the solver. With exactly 2 GB of RAM per core, this node is designed to highly partition moderately large meshes for rapid turnaround.

What this node is built for

SC93 is the high-compute and uncompromised-I/O tier. It suits:

  • Heavy transient and acoustic workflows — Sliding mesh, LES/DES, and CAA simulations where the solver generates massive data files every few iterations and cannot afford to wait on slow disk writes.

  • Broad parallel scaling — 128 cores provide the computational width to drastically cut turnaround times on meshes that scale efficiently past 64 ranks.

  • Large-scale DOEs needing both speed and space — Run massive parametric sweeps rapidly and store the entirety of the resulting data natively on one machine with zero I/O bottlenecks.

  • Bandwidth-bound solves — 24 memory channels across two sockets feed the 128 cores with the widest memory path available, preventing data starvation.

Understanding the dual-socket layout

A two-socket machine is not simply a bigger one-socket machine. Each processor has its own memory controllers and its own local RAM, and a core reaching data attached to the other socket pays a latency penalty crossing the interconnect between them.

For Fluent, this is highly manageable and worth knowing about. Partitioning the mesh so each socket works mostly on locally-held data — and pinning MPI ranks accordingly — keeps that cross-socket traffic low. Run without any NUMA awareness and you can lose some of the bandwidth advantage the second socket provides. We configure this for you as part of the setup, so in practice it's a detail we handle rather than one you have to manage.

Choosing SC93

Choose SC93 when:

  • Your transient workflow demands both the peak speed of NVMe and the massive 22+ TB capacity usually restricted to SATA drives, or

  • Your case scales efficiently to 128 cores, and you want to aggressively reduce solve times, or

  • You are generating tens of terabytes of result data and refuse to let disk write speeds bottleneck your compute.

If you don't require instant write speeds for massive autosaves, the SATA-equipped SC92 offers the exact same compute and capacity. If your mesh requires more than 256 GB of RAM, you should look toward our 384 GB tiers. SC93’s specific advantage is fusing over a hundred cores of compute power with a flagship storage array that never makes you wait.

Storage: capacity and peak speed combined

Historically, CFD engineers had to choose between the massive capacity of SATA or the sheer speed of NVMe. SC93 eliminates the compromise. Six 3.75 TB NVMe SSDs provide 22.5 TB of space with extraordinary sequential write speeds. For large transient runs where the solver generates gigabytes of data every few time steps, this array allows Fluent to write autosaves instantly, virtually eliminating I/O bottlenecks and letting all 128 cores stay focused on calculating physics.

How parallel solving works on this node

When you run Fluent in parallel, the solver partitions your mesh across all 128 cores (using algorithms such as METIS), each core solving its share of cells and exchanging boundary data every iteration via MPI. On a dual-socket node, most of that communication stays on-board, while each socket's 12 memory channels feed its own 64 cores from local memory. Sensible partitioning and rank placement keep cross-socket traffic to a minimum, ensuring your heavy parallel investment actually translates to shorter solve times.

Frequently asked questions

How is SC93 different from SC92? Both nodes feature 128 cores and 256 GB of RAM. The difference is the storage medium: SC92 uses SATA drives for bulk capacity, while SC93 uses a 6-drive NVMe array. If your simulation writes data constantly and requires peak I/O throughput to avoid stalling the solver, SC93 is the necessary upgrade.

Is 2 GB of RAM per core enough? Yes, for appropriately sized meshes. If you run a 150-million cell mesh on 128 cores, each core is only responsible for just over 1 million cells. The 2 GB per core ratio is highly optimized for rapid, partitioned solving. If your case has extreme physics overhead requiring higher RAM per core, look at our 384 GB nodes or single-socket setups.

What is the benefit of a 6-drive NVMe array? Zero I/O compromise. You get the capacity to hold months of full-scale transient data, coupled with the PCIe bandwidth to write that data to disk in seconds instead of minutes.

How large a mesh can it handle? Bounded by the 256 GB of RAM, you can comfortably load meshes up to roughly 200–250 million cells for standard single-phase steady-state runs. Send us your case for a precise estimate.

Is my data kept confidential? Yes.
