About This Lesson

This chapter reviews the general concepts of structural simulations in ANSYS, with a focus on Contacts.

It first describes the contact definition and then discusses the types of contacts.

Contacts are used whenever two objects come close enough to each other for a connection to form. In connections between two bodies, one force in the normal direction and one sliding force in the tangential direction appear, so that they determine the movement of bodies relative to each other.

Different types of contacts:

  • Bonded

  • No Separation

  • Frictionless

  • Rough

  • Frictional
