Fluent Meshing: Post-Volume Mesh Tasks
This session covers essential post-processing operations performed after initial volume mesh generation in ANSYS Fluent Meshing. These tasks optimize mesh quality, enable geometric manipulation of existing meshes, and streamline zone organization for efficient CFD solver setup.
Improve Volume Mesh
Enhances existing volume mesh quality by targeting cells below specified metrics (orthogonal quality, skewness). Automatically modifies poor-quality elements to ensure numerical stability and convergence reliability.
Transform Volume Mesh
Applies translational/rotational transformations to mesh zones. Supports single zone movement or creation of multiple translated/rotated copies using defined vector, axis, angle, and copy count. Ideal for symmetric/repeated regions without geometry remodeling.
Extrude Volume Mesh
Creates additional volume layers by extruding selected boundary faces. User controls extrusion distance, layer count, and growth rate. Perfect for structured boundary layers, extended outlets, far-field domains, or buffer zones.
Manage Zones
Organizes mesh structure through renaming, reclassification, and zone merging operations. Features name prefix changes, complete renaming, and multi-zone consolidation for clear boundary condition assignment and solver setup.
These post-mesh operations ensure production-ready meshes with optimal quality, geometry flexibility, and logical zone structure.
