This project aims to evaluate the impact of tube geometry and nanofluid composition on heat transfer performance. Three nanofluid compositions are examined: Alumina/water, MWCNT/water, and a hybrid Alumina-MWCNT/water nanofluid. It explores two geometric configurations: circular and diamond-shaped tubes' effect on heat transfer performance. The turbulence of the flow is simulated by Realizable k-epsilon model. The single phase model is considered to simulate nanoparticle presence in the base fluid.

This project investigates the performance of a tube with twisted tape inserts and vortex generators in ANSYS Fluent. The study focuses on the cooling of hot alumina nanofluid flowing through the inner tube while exposed to external air flow. The geometry was designed in ANSYS Design Modeler and meshed using ANSYS Meshing. The simulation uses a pressure-based solver with the RNG k-ε turbulence model and enabled energy equation for steady-state conditions. The study demonstrates the impact of twisted tape inserts and vortex generators on flow patterns, providing insights into heat transfer enhancement and cooling efficiency.

The Heat Exchanger GOLDEN Training Package is MR CFD’s most complete ANSYS Fluent collection for thermal exchanger simulation, with over 50 hands-on tutorials that take you from a first chevron plate model to advanced, publication-level analysis. Built for professors, CEOs, research teams, and engineering firms, it gives your group a ready-to-use project library, so new members become productive quickly and ongoing work starts from proven templates.
Plate and spiral heat exchangers: Simulate chevron, reverse cross flow, 4-layer planar, shell-and-plate, spiral, and planar heat exchangers with mixing tabs. Run conjugated heat transfer (CHT) in plate heat exchangers in both Fluent and ANSYS CFX, and work through a counter and cross flow heat recovery case validated against a paper.
Shell and tube design: Study baffle cut effects, spiral baffles, staggered baffles with paper validation, vertical shell and spiral tube units, shell and helical tube designs, liquid sodium units, and industrial shell-and-tube studies including baffle-cut optimization.
Enhancement techniques and nanofluids: Model twisted tape inserts, vortex generators, twisted barriers, helical fins, and dish-shaped and louvered strip inserts. Compare alumina, MWCNT, and hybrid nanofluids, with circular and diamond-shaped tubes, mixture-model nanofluids, and nanofluid flow through porous heat exchangers.
Finned tube and compact designs: Analyze finned tube, wavy finned, inner finned, and crude oil cooling heat exchangers. Compare elliptical and circular finned tubes with CHT, and evaluate pin-fin, pin and plate heat sinks.
Phase change and multiphase: Simulate PCM in finned tubes and shell-and-tube units, a PCM shell-and-tube thermal storage system with paper validation, and a triplex tube PCM unit with paper validation. Add evaporation-condensation in porous heat exchangers, condensation inside a shell-and-tube condenser, air bubble injection with VOF, and sedimentation and erosion with DPM using the Finnie, Oka, and McLaury models.
